About Me

Hey! I’m Jess,

a.k.a Avocado mum. I’m a Nurse, hypnotherapist and first-time-mum to Dylan the toddler!

I’m originally from Ireland, but I currently live in the South East of England with my fiancé Gavin and my son Dylan. Baby Dylan or LBD (little baby Dylan) as he is affectionately known by his cousins, was born in April 2021 just as the country began coming out of lockdown. A true pandemic pregnancy, it was certainly an experience I will never forget!

I started Avocado Mum as a place to share my journey as a first-time mum. My experience of a high-risk, pandemic pregnancy; the physical and mental struggles I had to overcome; and the ginormous leap from pregnancy to motherhood, at times left me feeling completely alone and if I’m honest, like a total failure. When I shared my story with friends, family and later online, I realised just how wrong I was. I was shocked at how many other mums reached out to me to tell me they had felt the exact same. What shocked me most however, was that none of them had ever told me about it before!

I know NOW that I was not alone in my experience which is why I’m so passionate about sharing my story. I believe it’s only through sharing our experiences that we can hope to end the shame and stigma around maternal mental health.

I also know first hand it takes more than just positive thinking to overcome the challenges many of us may encounter in pregnancy and the juggle of motherhood.

I want to share the tools and resources that have helped me over the past few years and most importantly, I want to make them more accessible to all mums and mums-to-be.

I’ve combined my first hand experience as a new mum and my careers as a nurse and hypnotherapist to create a community to empower and support you on your journey. So watch this space for exciting new updates, and remember, you are not alone x
